Evolutionary antiviral immunity. Currently incubating in SLC, coming soon to the beautiful PNW.
Our research
We study how different lineages of animals have adapted to cope with viral infections. While mammals, reptiles, and other vertebrates share a similar set of "building blocks" of immune genes, each species holds unique ways that these blocks have been assembled over evolutionary time to protect the host. We use genetic screens, functional genomics, and classic virology to uncover these new mechanisms as ways to learn about evolution, virology, and cell biology.
